Bendy Phone #POTD

By | Arg, Photos | No Comments

DeadPhoneYesterday evening I was setting out to head down to Sydenham for the first night of an Alpha course that a friend is doing. I gave myself plenty of time to get there and had the route planned and plotted in my phone via Google Maps navigation.

It was a beautiful evening, I had the radio playing some music and the windows down.

Glorious!

On my first left hand turn this gloriousness was to be short-lived when my phone decided that it wasn’t quite comfortable in the cradle and decided to launch itself out of the previously mentioned open window. It then skated across this quiet residential street only to be met by some very uncharacteristic traffic for the street in the form of a van and two cars.

The above is what was left of it.

What have I learnt?

This has left me feeling incredibly silly even if it was a freak turn of events but in future it makes me want to advise others what I have learnt:

  1. Always Always Always check your phone is sitting snuggly in its cradle
  2. Good idea to keep your phone plugged in so the charger acts as an anchor.
  3. Keep the cradle below the car’s widow line of the car if possible

EDIT – I have got phone insurance so a replacement will be sent to me in next few days!

Our performance for our Dad

By | Family, Video | No Comments

We’ve (my siblings, their partners, my wife and I) been in Dublin this weekend to help my parents celebrate my Dads retirement with a big party which was last night.

We did a surprise performance of a few songs my dad wrote 35 years ago which was great fun. Below is the video of us singing “One & One”. It is a great song and he and everyone else enjoyed it:

An amazing day after 22 years

I love my wife!

I also love Silver Strand!

I also really love my Family.

Put them all together and you’ve got the ingredients for an amazing day and this day was exactly that.

We’re in Ireland for Dad’s retirement party which is tomorrow. Dad had the genius idea for us all to pile in to the two cars and head down to their caravan in Silver Strand for lunch so we did just that. It was the first time in about 22 Years that the whole family was down there together and it was really wonderful to all be there.

We ate our fill and then went down to the beach where we were going to run it off but we actually ran it off with some healthy family competition. – The best most good-looking person obviously won…..yeah it was me!

Tom took the photo of Ruth and I and I love it.

My wife is lookin HOT! Woop Woop!

9 Years Old!

Today is the 9th birthday of this blog which is quite unbelievable for me. I started this blog with the intent of having an archive to look back on and it has been doing exactly that much to the cost of my pride. It’s been very humbling to look back on some posts where i was very clearly exuding youthful arrogance.

It’s really great to see how far I’ve come….

Some stats for you:

In the last 9 years this site:

  • has had over 60k views
  • has had 1800+ posts
  • has had 1700+ images uploaded
  • has had 300+ comments

The most popular post on this site was and is: Faith Loss & Due Dates.

NewWine RLC Shoot #potd

By | Blog, Work | No Comments

So far today’s shoot is going well. My brother has been away and normally I would use his kit so on this and last week’s shoot, I’ve been hiring in kit from www.kitroommonkey.co.uk who are based in Ealing studios.

The kit is centered around a Canon 5d mk2 on rails with a Dedo light kit and a H4N with boom. There are a few items new to me but generally it’s a great kit and packs down well.

I’m particularly loving the rail system. It’s great to be able to pull the while rig off the sticks and run it from the shoulder. My first rail setup last week was poorly thought out but this morning I had a little more time to set it up and I nailed it.

Proof will be the footage!
